Axtell Rifle Information

Axtell Rifles are made with only a few minor changes to the original design of the Sharps Rifles. We have reduced the one-piece firing pin's diameter, which has just about eliminated the problem of a broken pin. We also use a more durable barrel-blueing solution and use a small amount of Acraglas Resin to strengthen the traditionally weak areas of the stock.

It has been suggested to us that we should expand, hire more people, and gear up to manufacture hundreds of Axtell Rifles a year. Our company is small. You may have noticed that we don't advertise a great deal and may even be hard to find. A large percent of our business comes from word-of-mouth and repeat customers. Apparently, one Model 1877 Sharps is not enough for many people (see customer comments). Axtell Rifles may be the most expensive of its type on the market but there are still those who will not or can not settle for second best. If you have about a years worth of patience and, yes, the money, we will make you a rifle that you will be proud of in appearance and performance.

1877 Sharps Rifles are available with your choice of either English or Black Walnut. Wood upgrades are available, cost varies.All internal working parts of our black powder rifles are heat-treated tool steel, each receiver is X-rayed. The color case hardening and hand checkering are performed in the original manner. Our " Target Grade Badger Barrels" have cut rifling, are hand lapped, and hand polished. Screws are polished and timed. Delivery time is approximately nine to eleven months (depending on model ordered and options added).
To strengthen the traditionally weak areas of the original 1877 Sharps Rifles stock without changing it's graceful lines and appearance, we use a small amount of Acraglas Resin around and behind the lock and receiver. We feel this is the most discreet way to remedy a potential future problem.

Upon receipt of 30% deposit your order will be confirmed. For your convenience, we offer a monthly payment schedule for the remaining balance. You will be notified when rifle is near completion, or prior to engraving, at which time any remaining balance is due.

Rifle prices will not change during production, however, prices for engraving, checkering, pistol grip, or accessories, are subject to change.

Axtell Rifles have a lifetime guarantee on all internal parts: springs, firing pins, etc.
Parts will be replaced or repaired for the original owner if found defective in material or workmanship, Postage not included.
Any external problems (not caused by shipping) must be reported within three days or receipt of rifle and prior to firing.
